I need to preface this one by saying that when my friend called me, HE started the story by saying, “I know I am an idiot for doing this, but…”
Here is his story from yesterday morning:
I was driving to work around 6am, when I noticed all the cars on the highway ahead of me were swerving around something, so I slowed down before coming to an injured deer laying in the road. I carefully drove around it, but after driving a little ways, I felt sorry for the poor thing.
I stopped, and then backed up on the highway, until coming back to the deer. I got out of my car, walked over, bent down, and lifted it up like a baby, and proceeded to carry it off the road. Mind you, I really don’t have good balance without my cane, so it was quite a struggle. The whole time I was staggering toward the grass, the deer was looking into my face making whining noises.
When we got to the grassy area, before I could set the animal down, I did lose my balance, and fell over backward, with the deer landing on top of me, on my chest. After about a minute, I was able to slide the deer off me. I didn’t feel like there was any damage to my pacemaker or anything, but I still could not get up… So, I just laid there on the ground next to the deer.
After a few minutes, a young girl pulled over to the side of the road, and jumped out of her car. She ran over to me, and said, “Oh, my gosh! Can I take a picture of you and that deer?”
I told her that helping me up would be more appropriate. She did help me up, and I went back to my car to call for Animal Rescue.
We waited for help to arrive, and when they did, the deer was loaded into their truck. Unfortunately, they feel that the deer will most likely have to be put down. At least, I hope, I spared it some suffering.
*After hearing the whole story, I explained how lucky he was. It apparently never occurred to him that animals that don’t eat people will still bite you, if they are injured or scared.
Honestly, some of the dumbest things are done by some of the smartest people I know.
Thank you SO much to my friend for sharing his Idiot Moment!
